Biska Jatra, Bhaktapur

Biska Jatra is the annual celebration of two of the most important deities of the town of Bhaktapur, the wrathful god Bhairab and the goddess Bhadrakali. The New Year of the Bikram Sambat calendar takes place at the same time as this ancient festival. A few days before the New Year, the goddess and the god are enshrined in their raths, or immense chariots,& pulled through the narrow streets of Bhaktapur by crowds of young men.

Visiting Taudaha Lake

The lake, arguably the only clean water body remaining in the Kathmandu Valley, is a stop over for numerous migratory bird species. Some of the visitors to the lake include the cormorants, Ruddy Shelduck, Serpent eagle, common teal.

World of Macros

When people think about extreme close-up photography, they often picture those lovely shots of butterflies, water drops or flowers. And while you can spend a lot of time out in the field photographing those types of subjects, there’s more to macro photography than meets the eye. When you begin to develop your own style and your unique view of the world, you soon find that no subject is off limits.

Madhav Narayan Festival

The month long Madhav Narayan festival ends today. This is one of the most difficult rituals practiced by Hindus of Nepal. Devotees undertake a month-long fast, eat one meal in a day without any salt, walk barefoot in the chilly cold winter mornings, roll on the ground before taking a holy dip in the Hanumante River.

Sadhus of Maha Shivaratri

The sadhus begin to arrive days ahead and camp on the grounds of the temple complex and the surroundings. The Ram Mandir (Temple of lord RAM) is the main attraction for most of the Sadhus. A particular sect known as the Naga sadhus make for the most arresting sight, their stout bodies completely smeared in ash, their hair in dreadlocks, and without so much as a loin cloth on them. Meaning, they are stark naked.
